EHS Director – Italy

Location: Italy

Reports to: Site General Manager / Global EHS Lead

Job Summary

The EHS Director will lead the Environmental, Health, and Safety function for the pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Italy. They will develop, implement, and oversee EHS programs to ensure regulatory compliance, operational safety, and environmental sustainability. The role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to drive a proactive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and programs in line with Italian regulations (e.g., Legislative Decree 81/2008, REACH, Seveso Directive).
  • Ensure compliance with national and EU health, safety, and environmental laws, as well as corporate EHS standards.
  • Lead risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations to prevent workplace injuries and environmental incidents.
  • Monitor site environmental impact, including emissions, waste management, and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Partner with regulatory authorities (e.g., INAIL, ASL, ARPA) for inspections, permits, and compliance reporting.
  • Drive safety training programs and build an EHS-first culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Lead emergency response planning and crisis management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with global EHS teams to align site practices with corporate sustainability goals.
  • Manage EHS budgets and ensure cost-effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Track and report EHS performance metrics, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of EHS leadership experience, preferably in pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing.
  • Deep knowledge of Italian and EU EHS regulations.
  • Proven experience in risk management, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluent in Italian and English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and GMP environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Seveso III Directive compliance.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar qualification.
