CFD Engineer

My client leads the design, engineering, and calculations required for building luxury custom superyachts, serving as the creative and technical hub for their development in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

As an Engineer or Specialist, you will significantly contribute through naval architecture, structural, mechanical, and interior/exterior engineering, combining ingenuity with precision.

Your Responsibilities as a CFD Specialist

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is central to my client’s design process, particularly in naval architecture. The focus is on both hydrodynamics and aerodynamics of the vessels, impacting areas such as hull optimization, resistance simulations, and improving comfort onboard. In this role, you will handle CFD analysis, shape the integration of CFD tools into projects, and collaborate with a team of specialists to drive innovation. You’ll work on key areas like:

· Hull shape optimization;

· Resistance simulations;

· Fittings and trim wedge optimization;

· Wakefield analysis and optimization (for the propeller design);

· Screw simulation and analysis;

· Sloshing (swimming pool, jacuzzi, hydrogen tank, etc.)

· Wind climate simulation and analysis;

· Exhaust and flue gas analysis;

· Helicopter landing analysis;

· Thermal exchange (ventilation, air conditioning, cooling, heating, etc.);

· Increasing the level of comfort on board;

· Other specific R&D studies for which CFD can be used.

What You Bring

You are expected to manage complex tasks requiring deep expertise in CFD, supported by a relevant MSc./PhD and advanced knowledge of fluid dynamics. In this role, you’ll gather information, prioritize tasks, and maintain communication with relevant stakeholders, acting as a key knowledge source in CFD. You stay updated on industry advancements and work closely with both clients and internal teams, aligning CFD applications with diverse project needs.

Why Join?

My client sets the standard in the yacht-building industry, working closely with shipyards and owners to push boundaries in design and engineering. They are seeking individuals who can empathize with the unique vision of yacht owners, while always striving for the best possible solution.

Your Qualifications

· PhD or MSc in a relevant field

· 4+ years of experience in ship or yacht building (required)

· Several years of demonstrable experience with CFD simulations and software, preferably Star-CCM+ (or FINETM/Marine)

· Knowledge of 3D modelling software, such as NX, is an advantage

· Strong project management, communication, and teamwork skills

· English proficiency required, Dutch a plus

What’s Offered

· A chance to work at the forefront of the global yacht-building industry

· Opportunities for personal development and the ability to shape the future of CFD

· Working with state-of-the-art programs and equipment

· Competitive salary (€57,000 to €80,000 gross per year), including a 13th-month bonus.

· Non-contributory pension and a generous 27 vacation days + 13 ADV days.

· Hybrid working options and a modern workspace
