About the Role

We’re looking for a Cryogenics Engineer to support the development, optimisation, and operation of low-temperature systems used in advanced scientific and engineering environments. You’ll work hands-on with experimental setups, cooling systems, and precision instrumentation to enable stable, high-performance cryogenic conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and refine cryogenic systems and subsystems (e.g., dilution units, cryocoolers, vacuum assemblies).

  • Manage installation, commissioning, and ongoing operation of cryogenic equipment.

  • Troubleshoot thermal, mechanical, or vacuum-related issues affecting system performance.

  • Develop and maintain system documentation, schematics, and test procedures.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to define requirements, test conditions, and performance targets.

  • Monitor system behaviour and implement improvements to stability, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors on component selection and technical specifications.

  • Ensure safety standards and protocols for cryogenic handling are maintained.

Required Experience

  • Background in Cryogenics, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.

  • Practical experience working with low-temperature equipment or refrigeration systems.

  • Solid understanding of vacuum technologies, thermal management, and cryogenic instrumentation.

  • Experience diagnosing issues in complex experimental or engineering setups.

  • Ability to read and create technical drawings, specifications, and system architecture.

  • Familiarity with refrigeration cycles and cryogenic materials.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in low-noise measurement setups or precision laboratory environments.

  • Knowledge of automated control systems or scripting tools (e.g., LabVIEW, Python).

  • Experience integrating cryogenic systems into multi-disciplinary engineering workflows.

  • Understanding of microwave/RF systems or specialised measurement equipment (optional).

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on challenging technical problems in a high-impact engineering environment.

  • A collaborative team focused on innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.

  • Access to modern lab facilities and advanced cryogenic equipment.
