Chief Mate

My client is specialized in coastal and inland waterway transportation, operating a diverse fleet consisting of general cargo coasters, pusher tugs and push barges.

The company’s primary market focus is on European inland waterways and offer a full spectrum of maritime logistics services, including chartering, transport, stock management, and storage solutions.

They are now seeking an experienced Chief Mate for their general cargo coasters on a 4-month rotation. The ideal candidate will possess a valid Certificate of Competency and demonstrate proficiency in watchkeeping, cargo management, and stability calculations. This position involves collaboration with the captain to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Watchkeeping: Maintain regular watches at sea and in port, ensuring the vessel’s safety and compliance with navigational standards.
• Stowage Planning & Stability Calculations: Develop accurate stowage plans and perform stability calculations to ensure the safe loading and discharge of cargo.
• Cargo Operations: Oversee cargo and ballast operations as directed by the captain, ensuring efficiency and safety.
• Additional Duties: Fulfill tasks as outlined by the captain.

Qualifications:

• Valid Certificate of Competency for Chief Mate.
• Strong knowledge of cargo operations, stability management, and watchkeeping procedures.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

This is a crucial role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the vessel, requiring technical expertise and strong leadership.
