Role Overview

We are seeking a Quantum Engineer to develop and demonstrate scale-up-enabling quantum hardware solutions. This role focuses on building and operating quantum test capabilities, performing advanced quantum measurements, developing optimisation approaches, and collaborating with researchers and engineers to accelerate the development of scalable quantum technologies.

The successful candidate will combine experimental quantum expertise, software development skills, and practical engineering ability to design, test, and improve quantum systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop quantum wiring software, including mathematical models, algorithms, optimisation methods, and simulation tools.
  • Design and implement optimisation routines to improve quantum hardware architectures and performance.
  • Define and execute technical development roadmaps for quantum hardware demonstrators and scalable products.
  • Develop and operate quantum test systems, including mechanical, microwave, and cryogenic measurement setups.
  • Design, integrate, and validate hardware components for quantum computing applications.
  • Provide technical guidance and design feedback to RF, mechanical, and engineering teams.
  • Analyse experimental results and translate findings into improved designs and product solutions.
  • Collaborate with quantum researchers, engineers, and external partners to advance technology development.
  • Contribute to building and growing a high-performing quantum engineering team.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in experimental quantum computing involving solid-state qubit technologies (e.g., superconducting circuits, spin qubits, quantum dots, graphene-based systems, or related platforms).
  • Hands-on experience establishing and operating cryogenic measurement systems.
  • Practical experience specifying, installing, and operating DC and RF wiring for quantum experiments.
  • Strong Python programming skills for developing simulations, analysis tools, and optimisation algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of passive microwave engineering, including microwave networks and passive components.
  • Deep knowledge of superconducting quantum devices, including:
    • Qubit chip design principles
    • Readout resonator design
    • Single-qubit gate implementation
    • Single-shot measurement techniques
  • Ability to work across theory, software, experimental hardware, and engineering implementation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with quantum hardware product development and scaling challenges.
  • Knowledge of adjacent engineering fields, including:
    • Qubit fabrication and semiconductor processing
    • PCB design and fabrication
    • Cryogenic engineering and thermal management
    • RF connectors, micromechanics, soldering techniques, and microwave hardware
  • Experience designing and building experimental prototypes.
  • Familiarity with hardware integration, laboratory setup, and measurement automation.
  • Proficiency in French.

Desired Personal Attributes

  • Strong engineering mindset with a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Curiosity and willingness to work across multiple technical domains.
  • Ability to move between research, software development, experimentation, and practical implementation.
  • Comfortable working in an innovative environment where priorities evolve quickly.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and build alignment among stakeholders.
