Compensation: 40.00 to 55.00 USD per hour, plus benefits
Onsite role supporting spaceflight hardware testing

Darwin Space are partnered with an exciting space company who are developing and producing advanced electric propulsion systems for satellites. They are expanding their Test Team with a Production Test Technician who will play a critical hands on role in verifying that flight hardware is ready for space.

Their test organisation is responsible for validating the performance and reliability of propulsion modules in environments that replicate space and launch conditions, including vacuum, thermal extremes, vibration and shock. This team operates state of the art facilities and supports both high throughput production testing and new development campaigns.

They are looking for a technician with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, excellent attention to detail and a passion for working on hardware that will be launched into space.

Role Overview

The Production Test Technician will support the preparation, operation and maintenance of vacuum chambers and test setups used to evaluate Hall effect thruster modules and related subsystems. You will assemble test rigs from engineering drawings, assist with test execution, troubleshoot issues in real time and help ensure safe, reliable operation of complex test equipment.

This is a hands on, safety focused role in a fast paced environment working closely with engineers and technicians across multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate thermal vacuum systems safely and consistently
  • Monitor pressure, temperature, cleanliness and system health
  • Ensure test conditions meet mission level requirements

Test Execution

  • Assist in building, running and tearing down propulsion system tests
  • Work with thrusters, feed systems, power systems and support electronics
  • Follow test procedures and complete checklists accurately

Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose issues with hardware, instrumentation or vacuum systems during testing
  • Support rapid resolution to keep test timelines on track

Assembly and Fabrication

  • Assemble mechanical and electrical test setups using drawings and schematics
  • Perform basic wiring, routing, fixturing and alignment tasks

System Maintenance

  • Maintain vacuum pumps, instrumentation and support equipment
  • Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance

Safety and Documentation

  • Follow strict safety protocols around high voltage, pressure systems and hazardous materials
  • Log test data, maintain documentation and support test reporting

Collaboration

  • Work closely with test engineers, software developers and manufacturing personnel
  • Support smooth handoffs between build, integration and test

Required Qualifications

  • Two or more years of hands on experience working in test labs or with vacuum systems, mechanical assemblies or high voltage systems
  • Proven troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical or vacuum environments
  • Experience operating or supporting vacuum chamber testing
  • Ability to use multimeters, pressure gauges and diagnostic tools
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends when needed to support critical campaigns
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical certification or associate degree preferred

Desired Multipliers

  • Experience supporting thruster or propulsion testing
  • Familiarity with cleanroom procedures, vacuum safety or contamination control
  • Soldering, wiring or basic fabrication skills
  • Understanding of pressure systems, cryogenics or high voltage safety
  • Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and adapt to evolving conditions

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly rate between 40.00 and 55.00 USD
  • Full medical, dental and vision coverage
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Opportunities for growth in a mission driven aerospace organisation
