Data Engineer with BI Focus

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with a BI focus who can help turn data into valuable insights.

You will be responsible for making the right data available, modelling it effectively, and supporting the creation of smart dashboards and clear analyses that enable data-driven decision-making.

You will join a collaborative BI & Data Science team consisting of professionals across Data Engineering, BI & Analytics, and Data Science.

What will you do?

As a Data Engineer with a BI focus, you will contribute to the further development and innovation of a cloud data platform.

You will work closely with different business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate these into useful datasets that provide relevant and sustainable insights.

Your focus will be on data ingestion and data modelling, enabling the organisation to use data for:

• KPI dashboards
• Advanced visualisation
• Data storytelling
• Business reporting and analytics

You will involve stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure that your solutions meet their information and reporting needs.

Your Responsibilities

You will act as a central point for data ingestion and work closely with BI specialists to manage and develop the data model.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring and safeguarding data quality
• Managing data retention within the BI platform
• Acting as a sparring partner for business stakeholders
• Advising the business on effective use of information
• Providing both requested and proactive insights
• Developing and maintaining data pipelines and datasets
• Supporting the continuous improvement of the cloud data platform

We are looking for someone who is analytical, technically minded and comfortable working closely with the business.

Essential Requirements

• HBO-level education/working ability
• 5+ years of professional experience within BI/Data Engineering
• Strong hands-on experience with the Azure Cloud Platform
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Databricks
• Strong proficiency in:
  • Python
  • SQL
• Professional-level Dutch and English
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Customer-oriented and accurate
• Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility
• Strong team player with a willingness to share knowledge and expertise
• Able to work effectively under pressure

Nice to Have

Experience with additional BI and visualisation tools such as:

• Power BI
• QlikView
• Business Objects
