Principal Engineer – Power Electronics for Computing Systems
Location: Europe
Level: Principal Engineer
About the Opportunity
An established global technology organisation is seeking a Principal Engineer in Power Electronics to advance next-generation power delivery solutions for high-performance computing, AI infrastructure, data centres and telecommunications systems.
This is a senior technical R&D role focused on developing innovative, high-efficiency and high-power-density solutions for advanced processors, including CPUs, GPUs, ASICs and AI accelerators. The successful candidate will contribute to technology strategy, explore emerging power architectures and help shape the next generation of computing power management.
Key Responsibilities
-
Provide technical leadership for R&D projects involving next-generation board-mounted power (BMP), power supply in package (PSiP) and voltage regulator module (VRM) technologies.
-
Develop technology roadmaps for power management and power delivery in high-performance computing and advanced processor applications.
-
Identify and develop innovative solutions to challenges in DC-DC converter topologies, control strategies, magnetics, semiconductor technologies and packaging.
-
Propose new system-level power management concepts and power architectures for CPUs, GPUs, ASICs and other advanced computing platforms.
-
Evaluate the feasibility and performance of emerging power conversion technologies and architectures.
-
Produce technical insight reports, patents and scientific publications in power electronics and computing power delivery.
-
Establish and maintain collaborations with leading industrial organisations, research institutes and universities across Europe.
-
Represent the organisation at technical conferences, workshops and industry events.
-
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
Key Requirements
-
PhD in Power Electronics or a closely related discipline, with at least two years of postdoctoral R&D experience.
-
Alternatively, an MSc combined with 10+ years of advanced R&D experience in computing power delivery at a leading industrial organisation or research institute.
-
A strong technical portfolio demonstrated through granted patents, peer-reviewed publications in recognised venues such as IEEE, APEC or PCIM, or widely adopted open-source projects.
-
Proven R&D experience in high-frequency, high-efficiency and high-current-density power delivery solutions.
-
Deep expertise in power supply design and architecture, including converter topologies, control, magnetics, semiconductors and packaging.
-
Understanding of the power delivery requirements, emerging technologies and roadmaps associated with advanced processors and high-performance computing systems.
-
Excellent technical communication, documentation and presentation skills.
-
Professional fluency in English.
The Ideal Candidate
You are an accomplished power electronics specialist with a strong research and innovation background and a passion for solving complex power delivery challenges. You combine deep technical expertise with the ability to evaluate emerging technologies, influence long-term technical roadmaps and collaborate across industry and academia.
You are motivated by the opportunity to develop technologies that enable more powerful, efficient and scalable computing systems.
The Opportunity
-
Work on advanced power technologies supporting next-generation computing and AI infrastructure.
-
Influence technical roadmaps and contribute to cutting-edge R&D.
-
Build collaborations with leading research institutions and industry experts.
-
Contribute to patents, scientific publications and technological innovation.
-
Mentor engineers and help shape future power electronics solutions.
