This is a small satellite company focused on national security space, part of one of the world’s largest aerospace and defence groups. Their missions include missile warning and Earth observation.

They offer startup pace with the stability of the parent business behind it. The work is broad rather than narrow, so engineers here are not pigeonholed into one corner of their discipline.

The Mission Analysis Engineering team designs and develops Concepts of Operations and Design Reference Missions from customer requirements, models and simulates satellites, constellations and systems of systems, and designs and integrates mission data processing algorithms such as EO/IR image processing and inertial tracking. They own the development and validation of the satellite and constellation mission, along with the predicted technical performance metrics for the programme.

They are hiring at Level 5 and Level 6. You would be the Responsible Engineering Authority for all modelling, simulation and analysis on a programme, study or proposal, working alongside technical and programme leadership.

What you will do

• Build and maintain simulations for large satellite constellations to assess effectiveness against mission requirements
• Own the Electro Optical and Infrared image processing algorithm chain, from photon to Warfighter
• Create models for space vehicle payloads to use in system trades and performance predictions
• Develop novel algorithms, models and data processing schemes for MW/MT, RPO and SDA systems
• Architect the CONOPS and Design Reference Mission and their associated simulations
• Design and deploy image processing, inertial tracking, state estimation and optimal control algorithms for sensor systems
• Provide tools and modelling platforms for validating system performance during on orbit mission operations
• Collaborate with software and firmware teams on platforms for simulation deployment, including software and hardware in the loop

Who this suits

• Someone with a bachelor’s degree and 14 or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
• 7 or more years modelling and simulating complex aerospace systems using MATLAB, Simulink, Python or C++
• US citizenship, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance post start
• Level 6 suits someone with 20 or more years of related experience
• Useful extras: 9 or more years in satellite design or operation, EO/IR optical systems analysis and image processing algorithms, government furnished image models such as ASSET, PRA Toolkit or AFSIM, orbital mechanics and kinematic state estimation, satellite space to space communication networks, RPO or NMC orbits and manoeuvre planning, technical leadership including requirements V&V, REA and cost account management experience, an active TS/SCI clearance

What you get

Level 5: $180,500 to $269,000. Level 6: $217,500 to $324,000. This is an onsite role in El Segundo. Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. This role is export controlled and requires US Person status. There is no visa sponsorship.
