About the Opportunity

A leading global technology company is expanding its advanced power electronics R&D activities in Nuremberg and is looking for a Senior R&D Engineer in Medium Voltage Power Conversion Systems.

You will join a highly innovative Power Conversion Technology Laboratory focused on developing next-generation power conversion technologies for applications including renewable energy, battery energy storage, data centers, electric mobility, and critical power systems.

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of power electronics, combining fundamental technology research with hands-on development, prototyping, and validation of novel medium-voltage converter concepts.

Your Mission

• Lead and execute R&D activities for novel medium-voltage power conversion architectures and converter topologies

• Design and develop innovative converter concepts from initial architecture through prototype and laboratory validation

• Perform parameter design, component selection, hardware layout, prototype build-up, testing, and verification

• Develop and evaluate solutions involving multilevel converters, power semiconductors, magnetic components, modulation, and control

• Collaborate with universities, research institutes, technology partners, and internal engineering teams

• Identify emerging technologies and translate them into practical power conversion solutions

• Develop technical insights and contribute to the company’s medium-voltage technology roadmap

• Generate innovative ideas and contribute to intellectual property and patent activities

• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers across different disciplines

Your Expertise

• Master’s or PhD degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field

• Several years of hands-on experience in medium-voltage and/or high-power power electronics

• Strong knowledge of multilevel converter topologies and power conversion architectures

• Practical experience with power semiconductor technologies, ideally including wide-bandgap (SiC/GaN) devices

• Experience in power converter modulation and control

• Hands-on experience with hardware design, prototyping, testing, and laboratory validation

• Knowledge of magnetic component design is highly desirable

• Familiarity with medium-voltage standards and insulation coordination is an advantage

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a research-oriented mindset

• High degree of independence, ownership, and a hands-on “can-do” attitude

• Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and international teams

• Fluent English; willingness to learn German is a plus

• Willingness to travel occasionally for research projects, conferences, seminars, and collaboration with external partners
