Analog IC Design Engineer – High-Speed Mixed-Signal Design
Location: Remote/Germany
Employment Type: Full-time
Start Date: ASAP
Experience: 5+ years
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Analog IC Design Engineer with a strong background in high-speed analog and mixed-signal integrated circuit design to join an innovative semiconductor company developing next-generation electro-optical transceiver solutions.
This role is ideal for engineers who have designed circuits operating at 100 Gb/s and above, with experience in 200 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s systems considered highly desirable. You will work closely with photonic IC designers to develop monolithically integrated electronic circuits that interface directly with advanced silicon photonic devices, delivering industry-leading performance across process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) corners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design high-performance analog and mixed-signal circuits in BiCMOS technologies for ultra-high-speed optical communication applications.
- Develop precision analog building blocks including:
- High-speed amplifiers
- OpAmps
- Voltage regulators
- PVT-independent biasing circuits
- Temperature-independent bandgap references
- Design and optimize high-speed electrical and electro-optical control loops, including nested feedback loops for:
- DC Offset Cancellation
- Receive Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)
- Loss of Modulation (LOM)
- Loss of Signal (LOS)
- Squelch
- Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
- Design analog-based digital gates, analog multiplexers, and chip-level schematic hierarchies using the Cadence design environment.
- Develop interface circuitry for I²C and SPI control using available IP blocks.
- Apply layout-aware design techniques focused on device matching, current density, and minimizing parasitics.
- Perform LVS/DRC verification and support analog design verification to ensure specification compliance.
- Define production test strategies and collaborate closely with test engineering.
- Support product qualification, manufacturing, and customer technical activities.
- Drive continuous improvements in IC design methodologies and best practices.
Required Profile
Essential Experience
- M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience in analog or mixed-signal IC design.
- Proven experience designing high-speed analog circuits operating at 100 Gb/s or higher.
- Experience developing circuits for 100G, 200G, 400G or faster optical communication systems.
- Strong understanding of signal integrity, bandwidth optimization, jitter, noise, timing, and high-frequency analog design challenges.
- Extensive experience with the Cadence Design Framework and industry-standard EDA tools.
- Strong knowledge of chip-level IC development flows with a focus on manufacturability, quality, and reliability.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with BiCMOS process technologies.
- Experience co-designing electronics with photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
- Familiarity with optical transceivers, SerDes, CDRs, TIAs, laser drivers, or related high-speed communication circuits.
