  • Investigate technical challenges and improve the performance of complex optical devices.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support product development and design improvements.

  • Perform optical and electrical measurements using specialist laboratory equipment.

  • Analyse system performance, including signal integrity, noise, dispersion and transmission characteristics.

  • Develop and optimise testing methodologies for integrated photonic components.

  • Support the integration of optical and electronic technologies.

  • Build and configure laboratory test environments for component and system-level evaluation.

  • Evaluate and improve signal processing techniques and electronic performance.

  • Provide technical guidance and contribute to wider engineering development projects.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience within photonics, optical communications or high-speed hardware development.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Photonics or a related technical discipline. Advanced qualifications are advantageous.

  • Strong understanding of optical communication principles and high-frequency electronics.

  • Experience developing and validating high-speed optical systems.

  • Practical experience with photonic integrated circuits and optical component characterisation.

  • Knowledge of signal processing, equalisation and analogue electronics.

  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analysers and optical measurement equipment.

  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages for test automation.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical systems and work independently in a laboratory environment.

  • Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to coherent optical systems and advanced modulation techniques.

  • Experience with silicon photonics, InP or other integrated photonic platforms.

  • Knowledge of optical lasers, amplifiers and passive optical components.

  • Previous experience mentoring engineers or coordinating technical projects.

Additional Information

  • Base salary from $200,000 USD, depending on experience.

  • Relocation assistance available.

  • Visa sponsorship available for suitable candidates.
