A well-established marina and repair facility in Fort Lauderdale, FL is seeking a Heavy Crane Operator to support vessel handling and yard operations. This role is responsible for the safe operation of mobile cranes and lifting equipment used to move vessels, marine components, and heavy materials throughout the facility.

The ideal candidate has experience operating large cranes in marine, construction, or industrial environments, understands safe lifting practices, and works effectively with yard crews, captains, and project teams to ensure efficient operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Operate mobile and heavy cranes to lift, position, and move vessels, engines, masts, and heavy marine equipment.
  • Safely perform vessel launches, lifts, and relocations in coordination with marina and yard personnel.
  • Inspect lifting equipment, slings, chains, and rigging before operations to ensure safety compliance.
  • Maintain accurate load calculations and safe lifting procedures based on vessel weight and crane capacity.
  • Work closely with riggers, dockhands, and yard teams during lifting and positioning operations.
  • Perform routine pre-operation equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Support boatyard operations by assisting with yard logistics, material movement, and heavy equipment handling.
  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and marina operating procedures.
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors and crew during lifts to ensure safe and efficient execution.
  • Assist with general marina or yard tasks when crane operations are not required.

Requirements include:

  • Experience operating mobile cranes or heavy lifting equipment in a marine, shipyard, construction, or industrial setting.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging, lifting procedures, and load calculations.
  • Ability to read and follow lift plans and operational safety guidelines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills when coordinating lifts with ground crews.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and near water.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and assist with physical yard tasks when required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
