Darwin is assisting a well-established Ship Repair company with their search for a Quality Assurance Specialist.

The Quality Assurance Specialist supports compliant, reliable ship repair by verifying that work meets contract requirements, technical specifications, approved procedures, drawings, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory or classification standards. The role combines hands-on shipboard inspection with administration of an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS). The specialist works with Production, Project Management, subcontractors, customers, and Quality personnel to complete inspections, control nonconforming work, maintain accurate quality records, and support continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
• Perform receiving, in-process, testing, and final inspections.
• Inspect structural, welding, piping, machinery, electrical, and outfitting work.
• Inspect preservation and coating work.
• Review drawings, specifications, procedures, and work instructions.
• Verify inspection hold points, witness points, and testing requirements.
• Coordinate inspections with customers, surveyors, and regulatory representatives.
• Document inspections using reports, checklists, photos, and test records.
• Review quality packages and project closeout documentation.
• Control nonconforming materials, processes, and completed work.

Requirements:

• Ship Repair Experience: Minimum 5 years in ship repair, shipbuilding, marine maintenance, or a related heavy-industrial environment.
• Quality Experience: Minimum 2 years in quality assurance, quality control, inspection, supervision, or technical documentation.
• Shipboard Inspection: Practical experience inspecting ship repair work in active vessel or shipyard environments.
• Repair Documentation: Ability to read and apply ship repair specifications, drawings, technical manuals, procedures, and work packages.
• Welding & Structural: Working knowledge of shipboard structural repairs, welding requirements, welding documentation, and NDE records.
• Marine Systems: Knowledge of shipboard piping, machinery, electrical, preservation, coatings, and outfitting work.
• Inspection Requirements: Ability to identify and verify hold points, witness points, testing requirements, and acceptance criteria.
• Quality Management: Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, including audits, nonconformance, corrective action, document control, and quality records.
• Quality Documentation: Ability to create accurate, complete, traceable, and retrievable inspection and test records.
• Shipyard Conditions: Ability to work in dry docks, piers, vessels, machinery spaces, tanks, and other active ship repair environments.
