Foreman/ Motor Shop Manager
Job Summary
Oversees, coordinates, and prioritizes all service work performed within the electric motor shop, including motor rewinds, pumps, mechanical repairs, machining, and shipping/receiving functions. Ensures efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, cost control, and adherence to safety and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production Management
- Oversee scheduling and prioritization of all service work, including rush and routine jobs
- Coordinate workflow across rewind, mechanical, machine, and support areas to meet deadlines and estimates
- Monitor job progress, labor hours, and material usage to ensure alignment with quoted costs
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of all repair work and documentation
Technical Oversight
- Provide technical guidance on electric motor repair, pump repair, diagnostics, rewinding, and equipment servicing
- Assist in troubleshooting complex repair issues and determining repair vs. replacement recommendations
- Review and support technical drawings, specifications, and repair procedures when needed
Customer Support
- Interface with customers to provide recommendations, updates, and technical advice
- Support service teams in addressing customer concerns and ensuring satisfaction
- Promote a strong company image through professionalism and technical expertise
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise daily activities of shop personnel and service supervisors
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to shop employees
- Ensure team adherence to company policies, procedures, and performance expectations
- Support workforce planning, scheduling, and skill development initiatives
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Review job estimates, track cost performance, and identify variances
- Approve requisitions for tools, parts, and service equipment
- Ensure accurate job paperwork, documentation, and tracking systems are maintained
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety procedures and ensure proper use of PPE
- Drive a safety-first culture across all shop functions
- Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA standards, and internal procedures
Facility & Equipment Management
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of shop equipment and work areas
- Ensure proper operation, storage, and handling of tools and machinery
- Maintain clean, organized, and efficient workspace practices
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3-5 years of experience in electric motor repair, rewinding, or industrial service environment
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a shop setting preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC motors, rewinding processes, and mechanical repairs
- Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings
- Familiarity with machining, balancing, and testing equipment
Leadership Competencies
- Strong team leadership and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple jobs and manage workload effectively
- Problem-solving and decision-making capability in a fast-paced environment
