Quantum Algorithms Theorist – Resource Estimation and Design
We are seeking a Research Scientist – Quantum Algorithms with a background in quantum algorithms to assess, develop, and adapt algorithms for neutral atom quantum computers. This role focuses on evaluating the feasibility of quantum algorithms for emerging fault-tolerant hardware and implementing them on quantum devices.
The successful candidate will incorporate hardware-aware constraints into estimates of the computational resources required to execute quantum algorithms. Responsibilities span algorithm selection, circuit design, and logical resource estimation across high-impact application areas. The role bridges application-level algorithm development with hardware constraints to define the scale of quantum systems required to achieve practical quantum advantage.
Responsibilities
- Identify, design, and evaluate quantum algorithms suitable for neutral atom quantum computers.
- Compare algorithm implementations and assess trade-offs between accuracy, runtime, space requirements, and hardware demands.
- Incorporate hardware-aware constraints to leverage capabilities such as long-range connectivity and parallel operations.
- Collaborate with quantum error correction specialists to evaluate and refine logical resource estimates across different fault-tolerance frameworks.
- Estimate the physical resources required to execute algorithms under realistic assumptions.
- Communicate algorithm performance, resource costs, and hardware requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in Quantum Information, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Strong background in quantum algorithms and quantum circuit design.
- Experience with quantum algorithms, including areas such as Hamiltonian simulation, quantum chemistry, or materials simulation.
- Experience in fault-tolerant quantum computing resource estimation, supported by relevant research publications.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain algorithmic trade-offs to diverse audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams spanning software, engineering, and experimental research.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with neutral atom quantum computing architectures.
- Knowledge of fault-tolerance frameworks and logical gate cost estimation methodologies.
- Additional language skills are an advantage.
