Marine Engineering
The Superintendent is responsible for managing all operations related to assigned ship repair or shipbuilding projects. This role ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and customer expectations. The Superintendent coordinates labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and supervisors while maintaining strong communication with management and project teams. The position requires significant industry experience, leadership capability, and the ability to work in demanding physical and environmental conditions.
Responsibilities of the role:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily work assignments for personnel, equipment, tools, and materials.
- Ensure all job assignments are performed according to management direction and customer requirements.
- Meet daily with Foremen establish labor and equipment needs.
- Monitor project progress and communicate status updates regularly to management.
- Coordinate with other Superintendents to avoid labor, equipment, or material conflicts.
- Ensure subcontractor performance meets company standards for quality, safety, and productivity.
- Review and approve timesheets and job cost charges to ensure accuracy and alignment with contract scope.
- Verify that all required materials are on hand or properly ordered to maintain production flow.
- Inspect work prior to regulatory inspections and obtain necessary approvals and sign-offs.
- Enforce compliance with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
Requirements for the role:
- 8 – 10 years of experience in a shipbuilding/ commercial shipyard environment.
- 3 – 5 years of management or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of project planning and task scheduling.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and technical manuals.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for interaction with employees and customers.
- Demonstrated capacity to execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Physically capable of lifting 50-75 pounds consistently and performing demanding manual tasks.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights (up to 50 feet), and in extreme environmental conditions.
- Medically qualified to wear OSHA-required personal protective equipment and respond to audible alarms.
