Laser Communication Business Developer

Optical wireless communication is one of the fastest moving frontiers in space and defence right now, and the companies that win this market need people who can turn that momentum into real commercial relationships.

Our client, a growing player in the European space and defence sector, is looking for a Laser Communication Business Developer to drive new business across the optical communication terminal market, from first contact through to signed contract. If you understand laser communication technology and want to join a company at a genuine inflection point in its growth, this is a rare opportunity to shape that story from close to the top.

You will own the end to end sales process for optical wireless communication and optical communication terminal opportunities, from identifying and researching prospects across the European and global market through to contract negotiation and closure.

You’ll build long term relationships with key stakeholders, work closely with sales and technical teams to shape proposals, and keep the pipeline moving with qualified prospects. Ongoing market research will be part of the role too, tracking trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities to inform strategy, alongside developing strategic partnerships that extend the company’s reach in this space.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in business development, programme management or systems engineering within laser communication or optical communication terminal markets
  • Strong understanding of optical communication terminal and laser communication technologies and the dynamics of this market
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work cross functionally with sales, technical and executive teams
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills

Why This Role

This company has just become part of a wider group, growing significantly in size and ambition, and is establishing itself as a genuine major player in the European space and defence industry. It’s an environment where every step of the process carries real ownership and meaning, without the many layers of process typical of larger primes. Joining now means joining at a genuine milestone moment, with the next couple of years set to be transformative for the business.

Darwin Recruitment is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy.
