Role Overview
This role involves developing and implementing designs for quantum error correction codes, qubit layouts, logical operation strategies, and methods to optimise the use of connectivity advantages in neutral atom quantum computing platforms.
The successful candidate will contribute to quantum error correction research, publish results within the broader research community, and collaborate with control systems, engineering, and software teams to help realise fault-tolerant quantum computing capabilities on real hardware.
Responsibilities
- Analyse and design fault-tolerant circuits for syndrome measurement and logical operations.
- Optimise fault-tolerant protocols while accounting for hardware constraints such as qubit movement and device architecture.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to incorporate hardware and software constraints into protocol design.
- Communicate software and hardware requirements for fault-tolerant quantum computation.
- Implement and evaluate quantum error correction protocols on neutral atom quantum hardware.
- Contribute to research publications and the wider quantum computing community.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent experience in Quantum Information, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong research background in fault tolerance and/or quantum error correction, with experience publishing relevant work.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, including engineering, experimental physics, and software development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with one or more of:
- Quantum LDPC (qLDPC) codes
- Magic state distillation
- Fault-tolerant gate synthesis
- Lattice surgery
- Quantum circuit compilation
- Quantum error correction code design
- Experience programming in Python, Rust, Julia, C++, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with collaborative software development practices, including Git-based workflows.
- Experience with numerical simulation and analysis of quantum error correction protocols.
- Experience working with experimental teams to implement fault-tolerant protocols on quantum hardware, particularly in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics platforms.
