Maritime Electrician

Reports To: Department Supervisor

Position Summary
Responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of marine, industrial, and facility electrical systems and equipment. This role supports vessel operations, shipyard infrastructure, and facility maintenance through hands-on electrical work while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
* Install, maintain, test, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control systems, equipment, and components in marine and industrial environments.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions using testing devices, meters, and hand tools to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
* Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and required repairs while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and marine standards.
* Install and maintain lighting systems, security systems, transformers, breakers, switches, outlets, and industrial yard equipment.
* Construct, fabricate, repair, or replace wiring, electrical fixtures, and components using hand and power tools.
* Test electrical systems and circuit continuity using multimeters, megger testers, and other diagnostic equipment to verify system safety and functionality.
* Interpret electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation to support installation and repair activities.
* Prepare material lists, sketches, and documentation to support project planning and execution.
* Collaborate with team members and other departments to complete projects safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
* Provide updates on job status and recommend improvements to quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
* Train and assist junior technicians or helpers as assigned.
* Perform additional duties and responsibilities as directed by management.

Qualifications
* Previous marine, industrial, commercial, or facilities electrical experience required.
* Strong understanding of electrical systems, troubleshooting techniques, and safe work practices.
* Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and industrial electrical standards preferred.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
* Professional demeanor when interacting with vessel crews, contractors, and facility personnel.
* Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
* Journeyman-level electrical experience in marine or industrial environments.
* Experience with PLCs, industrial automation systems, and underground electrical systems.
* OSHA certification or additional safety training credentials.
* Experience with outdoor lighting, industrial yard equipment, and marine vessel electrical systems.

Education & Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Basic understanding of labor tracking, project coordination, and timekeeping procedures preferred.

Technical Skills
* Ability to read, understand, and apply engineering drawings, electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
* Working knowledge of electrical theory, marine systems, and basic engineering calculations.
* Proficient with electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools commonly used in the trade.

Physical Requirements
* Ability to safely operate industrial equipment and tools.
* Capable of lifting and moving materials up to 75 lbs.
* Comfortable working in confined spaces, aboard vessels, and in industrial or shipyard environments.
* Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions while wearing appropriate PPE and weather gear.

Work Environment
* Standard 8-hour workday with occasional overtime as required.
* Work may be performed aboard vessels, in shipyards, industrial facilities, or outdoor environments.
* Frequent interaction with vessel crews, contractors, engineers, and facility personnel is expected.
