Hydraulic & Propulsion Engineer

Reports To: Hydraulics Supervisor

Position Summary
Responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, testing, and replacement of marine propulsion and hydraulic systems. This role supports vessel operations through hands-on mechanical and hydraulic work while ensuring quality, safety, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
* Inspect, disassemble, repair, replace, reassemble, align, and test marine propulsion machinery and related systems.
* Fabricate, assemble, and test hydraulic hoses, fittings, and components.
* Lay out mechanical equipment and machinery in accordance with technical specifications and drawings.
* Determine alignment procedures and testing requirements for propulsion and hydraulic systems.
* Operate shop equipment including drill presses, saws, grinders, and other fabrication tools.
* Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings, and technical sketches to support fabrication, alignment, and testing activities.
* Assist with inventory management for equipment, tools, supplies, and materials.
* Provide updates on job progress and recommend improvements to quality, safety, and efficiency.
* Support additional operational or technical duties as assigned.

Qualifications
* Basic knowledge of hydraulic and marine propulsion systems.
* Positive attitude with strong time management and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
* Commitment to quality workmanship and customer service.

Education & Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Basic understanding of labor tracking, project coordination, and material management preferred.
* Previous marine, hydraulic, mechanical, or industrial experience preferred.

Technical Skills
* Ability to read and understand marine engineering documentation, blueprints, and motor schematics.
* Working knowledge of basic marine engineering calculations and mechanical systems.

Physical Requirements
* Ability to operate industrial tools and equipment safely.
* Capable of lifting and moving materials up to 75 lbs.
* Comfortable working in confined spaces, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, and other enclosed environments.
* Ability to work in physically demanding shipyard or marine environments where exposure to fumes, noise, and electrical hazards may occur.
* Basic first aid awareness and adherence to safety procedures required.

Work Schedule
* Standard 8-hour workday with occasional overtime as needed.
