We are recruiting for an experienced Chief Engineer to join a leading Dredging and Marine Construction contractor supporting a fleet of specialized vessels and marine equipment, along the Gulf-coast. This role is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, reliability, and operational readiness of all onboard mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems while leading the engine department and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will work closely with vessel management and project teams to maximize equipment availability, minimize downtime, and support safe, efficient project execution. This position requires travel and the ability to work on remote project sites for extended periods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the engine department, including mentoring and managing engineering crew members.
  • Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs for all vessel machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure all mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems are maintained in optimal operating condition.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventories, spare parts, and critical components to support vessel operations.
  • Coordinate repair schedules, maintenance planning, and technical support with shore-based management.
  • Manage fuel, lubricants, water, and bunker operations while monitoring consumption and inventory levels.
  • Prepare vessels for drydock periods, annual inspections, and regulatory surveys.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, inspection reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, environmental regulations, and applicable maritime authorities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by identifying maintenance risks, implementing corrective actions, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Unlimited DDE or Chief Engineer License (minimum 3,000 HP) or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of marine mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propulsion systems.
  • Proven experience leading engineering crews aboard commercial marine vessels.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance skills.
  • Experience planning maintenance schedules, drydock activities, and equipment overhauls.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage maintenance records, inventories, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of marine safety regulations and industry compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with vessel management and project teams.
  • TWIC card or ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
