Optomechanical Engineer
An innovative technology organisation developing advanced optical hardware for next-generation wireless communication systems is seeking an Optomechanical Engineer to join its growing engineering team.
The company focuses on building high-performance optical platforms that combine mechanical, optical, and electronic subsystems. Engineers work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment to develop precision hardware from concept through testing and integration.
The Role
This position is ideal for an early-career engineer who wants to work on the design and integration of precision optomechanical systems used in advanced communication technologies.
You will contribute to the mechanical design, analysis, and testing of hardware that supports and stabilises optical components in demanding environments. The role involves hands-on work in design, simulation, laboratory integration, and cross-team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Optomechanical Design
- Design precision mechanical components and assemblies that support optical systems, including mounts, enclosures, and alignment features.
- Develop structural interfaces that maintain optical alignment and mechanical stability.
Engineering Analysis
- Perform tolerance and sensitivity analyses to evaluate how mechanical variations affect system performance.
- Assess mechanical and thermal influences on optical stability.
Simulation and Modelling
- Conduct structural and thermal analyses to evaluate deformation, vibration behaviour, and temperature effects on hardware.
- Use engineering simulation tools to guide design decisions.
Integration and Testing
- Support assembly, alignment, and testing of hardware in laboratory environments.
- Participate in performance verification, measurement, and troubleshooting activities.
Technical Documentation
- Produce detailed CAD models, drawings, and engineering documentation to support manufacturing and assembly processes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with optical, electronics, software, and systems engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Experience
- Approximately 2-5 years of experience in precision mechanical or optomechanical engineering.
Technical Skills
- Experience designing mechanical components used in optical or high-precision systems.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar).
- Familiarity with tolerance analysis and alignment-sensitive mechanical design.
- Understanding of materials and design considerations for thermal and mechanical stability.
- Experience using finite element analysis (FEA) tools for structural or thermal evaluation.
Practical Experience
- Hands-on involvement in hardware assembly, prototyping, or laboratory testing.
Professional Skills
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Effective collaboration within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
What’s Offered
- Opportunity to work on advanced hardware technologies within a collaborative engineering environment.
- Exposure to the full development lifecycle- from design through testing and integration.
- Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
- Potential relocation support where applicable.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Access to modern engineering tools, laboratories, and equipment.
- Professional development and career growth opportunities.
