Job Title: Senior Engineer – Precision Optical Control Systems (Gimbals, FTS, Laser Pointing)
Location: Singapore | Relocation Supported
Industry: Aerospace, Optical Systems, SpaceTech, Laser Communications
Compensation: Competitive salary + Equity/Stock Options
Overview:
Our client, a well-funded and rapidly growing technology company in the laser communications space, is seeking a Senior Engineer with deep expertise in precision optomechanical systems and closed-loop control. This role is focused on the mechanical stabilisation and dynamic pointing of laser systems mounted on fast-moving platforms (e.g., gimbals, tip-tilt mirrors, or fast steering mechanisms).
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience building real-time control systems that achieve ultra-precise pointing and alignment in dynamic environments – think satellite lasercom, drone-mounted optics, or surgical laser platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Lead the design and implementation of closed-loop control systems for high-precision laser pointing and stabilisation.
-
Model system dynamics, sensor feedback (IMUs, gyros, optical trackers), and actuator responses (piezo, gimbal, tip-tilt) to achieve sub-microradian stability.
-
Develop and simulate control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink; implement real-time code in C/C++.
-
Integrate pointing and tracking systems into complex optomechanical payloads, including alignment and calibration.
-
Work collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams (optical, embedded, mechanical, and aerospace engineers) to build robust systems for real-world deployment.
-
Support lab testing, field validation, and space-grade environmental qualification.
Ideal Background:
-
5+ years of experience in high-precision mechanical control or pointing systems.
-
Strong foundation in control theory, dynamic system modeling, and estimation filters.
-
Experience designing stabilised platforms such as:
-
Gimbals or FTS for optical/laser systems
-
Satellite tracking and pointing mechanisms
-
Surgical or industrial laser alignment systems
-
UAV/drone camera stabilisation or comms payloads
-
-
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and embedded C/C++.
-
Experience with system integration and hardware tuning in a lab setting.
Why This Role?
-
Contribute to breakthrough technology enabling next-generation global internet infrastructure.
-
Join a high-impact team working across earth and space-based optical systems.
-
See your work go from simulation to space-grade hardware.
-
Full relocation package available; flexible remote start supported.
-
Backed by leading global investors and selected by premier aerospace innovation programs.
