Sonar Signal Processing Engineer

The Role:
We are seeking a Sonar Signal Processing Engineer to support the development of advanced underwater sensing and communication systems.
This role focuses on the design, prototyping, and evaluation of sonar and underwater communication methods, working from concept-level architectures through to tested implementations.
You will contribute to next-generation underwater signal processing techniques, working closely with simulation, field data, and system integration teams to deliver robust real-world performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support early-stage development (pre-development) of sonar signal processing systems
- Design, prototype, and evaluate underwater communication methods based on system concepts and architectures
- Identify and introduce innovative signal processing and modelling techniques
- Contribute to technical studies and feasibility investigations
- Analyse and evaluate sea trial and experimental data, including independent result interpretation
- Prepare and structure test and trial results for technical reporting and decision-making
- Support implementation and integration of signal processing components into product software
Requirements (your profile):
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. communications engineering, electrical engineering, or similar)
- Strong understanding of communication systems and signal processing principles
- Experience or strong interest in digital signal processing (DSP)
- Proficiency in MATLAB for analysis, simulation, and development
- Ability to work independently on technical problems while contributing in a team environment
- Strong analytical mindset with structured and solution-oriented thinking
- Ability to present and communicate technical results clearly
- Comfortable working within project timelines and defined delivery schedules
Preferred (Nice to have):
- Experience in sonar, underwater acoustics, or related sensing systems
- Exposure to marine, defence, or offshore technology environments
- Familiarity with real-world experimental data and field testing
- Programming experience beyond MATLAB (e.g. Python or C++)
- Experience with modelling, simulation, or algorithm development
