Position Summary
The Transportation Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading transportation safety and regulatory compliance across the company’s daily operations. This role ensures the safe movement of materials, compliance with OSHA, DOT, hazardous materials, and other applicable regulations, and the consistent implementation of company safety policies and procedures.
The position provides leadership in safety program development, employee training, incident investigation, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with operational leadership to promote a strong safety culture and maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient working environment across multiple locations.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required
- Minimum of six years of progressively responsible safety experience within an industrial, transportation, logistics, or related environment.
- At least three years of leadership experience, including the management or supervision of safety teams.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, industrial hygiene, DOT/GHS hazardous materials regulations, and ergonomics.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and managing safety programs across multiple locations.
- Extensive knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, audit processes, and audit readiness.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret safety data and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization and with external regulatory agencies.
- Advanced computer skills, including Excel, reporting, dashboards, and data analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work extended hours, weekends, and holidays when required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel domestically within the United States approximately 30% of the time to support operations, attend meetings, and visit company locations.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
- Experience within the ocean transportation, maritime, shipping, or port operations industry.
- Experience managing hazardous materials programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the company’s safety function across U.S. operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Ensure consistent implementation of safety standards and programs across all company locations.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to Safety Supervisors and other safety team members, ensuring accountability and effective execution of safety initiatives.
- Oversee multi-site safety operations and conduct regular site visits to assess workplace conditions, identify risks, and support safety program implementation.
- Lead and oversee safety audits, inspections, and on-site evaluations, ensuring deficiencies are identified, addressed, and resolved in a timely manner.
- Analyze safety data, trends, and performance metrics to identify risks and develop corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead accident prevention initiatives and oversee incident investigations, including root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Develop and oversee safety training programs, including new hire orientation, supervisor training, and ongoing employee safety education.
- Conduct regular visits to operational areas to engage with employees, observe work practices, and reinforce a strong and consistent safety culture.
- Partner closely with operations leadership and field teams to ensure safety requirements are effectively integrated into daily operational practices.
- Provide real-time guidance and support in the field, working collaboratively with operational teams to identify and mitigate risks.
- Support the oversight of hazardous materials operations, including cargo handling, documentation, storage, transportation, and disposal.
- Maintain accurate safety and compliance documentation and ensure all locations remain audit-ready.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and support compliance-related communications and inspections.
- Monitor changes in safety and regulatory requirements and recommend improvements to company policies, programs, and operational practices.
- Coordinate emergency response activities and support incident management as required.
- Prepare and present safety performance reports, metrics, and trends to company leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
