Senior Quantum Optics / Photonics Engineer | Quantum Computing
As a member of the Hardware R&D Team, you will collaborate with our team to develop nonlinear optical devices on integrated nanophotonic platforms. You will design, build, and operate complex optical experiments, utilizing rigorous data analysis to characterize and optimize scalable quantum light sources for the world’s first photonic quantum computers.
What you’ll be doing:
- Build and operate advanced optical experiments to generate and measure squeezed light
- Develop and benchmark next-generation nonlinear photonic devices
- Characterise photonic integrated circuits (PICs) with thermal and electro-optic components
- Analyse experimental data and compare results against simulations and analytical models
- Develop test procedures, technical documentation and automated measurement workflows
What they’re looking for:
- PhD in Quantum Optics, Photonics, AMO, Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Strong knowledge of squeezed light, photon generation and single-photon detection
- Experience with homodyne/heterodyne detection and shot-noise-limited measurements
- Experience with laser/resonator locking techniques such as Pound-Drever-Hall or dither locking
- Strong hands-on experience with optical/RF laboratory equipment
- Python experience for data acquisition, analysis and automation
- Ability to develop analytical and numerical models of physical systems
Nice to have:
- Microring resonators, frequency combs or soliton generation
- Pulse shaping, IQ/amplitude modulation and arbitrary waveform generators
- Automated instrument control and hardware interfacing
- Laser noise characterisation, including phase/frequency noise and RIN
