Darwin are currently working with a Dredging and Marine Construction contractor with their search for a Travelling Port Engineer.
The Travelling Port Engineer is responsible for providing technical oversight, maintenance management, and operational support for a fleet of marine vessels and associated equipment operating throughout the Gulf Coast region. This role serves as a key liaison between vessel operations, project teams, and maintenance personnel to ensure equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and safe operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel regularly to vessel and project locations throughout the Gulf Coast region to provide technical support and oversight.
- Manage and monitor maintenance programs for assigned vessels and marine equipment.
- Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Coordinate repair projects, shipyard activities, equipment upgrades, and vendor services.
- Maintain accurate records of vessel equipment, maintenance history, and asset inventories.
- Monitor the condition and performance of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and auxiliary systems.
- Manage inventories of critical spare parts, consumables, and maintenance supplies.
- Assist with maintenance budgeting, cost control, and forecasting for assigned assets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, classification, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with vessel crews, operations personnel, contractors, and management teams to support reliable vessel operations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in marine engineering, vessel maintenance, port engineering, or heavy equipment management.
- Experience supporting commercial marine vessels, dredging operations, offshore support vessels, tug and barge fleets, or similar maritime assets.
- Strong knowledge of marine mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and propulsion systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex equipment issues.
- Experience managing maintenance programs, work orders, inspections, and repair projects.
- Working knowledge of marine regulatory and classification requirements.
- Strong organizational, planning, and asset management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple locations and teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the Gulf Coast and work at remote project sites as required.
- Valid transportation credentials and the ability to obtain necessary security clearances and site access credentials.
