PIC Design Engineer

Location: UK | Full-time

We’re looking for a PIC Design Engineer to join an advanced photonics R&D team developing next-generation III-V and hybrid integrated photonic devices.

You’ll work across PIC design, mask layout, device development and fabrication, collaborating closely with design, fabrication and testing teams to take concepts from research through to production.

What you’ll do

• Design PICs and III-V optoelectronic devices

• Create mask layouts using KLayout, Nazca or equivalent

• Develop and maintain PDKs and design rules

• Use Python to automate design and layout workflows

• Work with fabrication and testing teams to improve device designs

• Explore new applications and technologies in integrated photonics

What we’re looking for

• PhD in semiconductor devices, photonics or a related field

• Strong understanding of waveguides, modulators, detectors and passive devices

• Hands-on mask layout/design experience

• Strong Python skills

• Experience with III-V photonics is highly desirable

• Ideally 3+ years’ experience in photonics R&D, industry or academia

• PDK development, optical communications or semiconductor fabrication experience is a plus
