We are looking for an Industrial Engineer Manager to join an industry-leading shipbuilder.
This position involves improving production flow, labor utilization, material movement, cost performance, and schedule adherence across complex shipbuilding operations. This position leads industrial engineering efforts involving labor planning, time studies, line balancing, workflow development, bottleneck analysis, Value Stream Mapping, facility layout, and Earned Value Management (EVM) to improve how work is planned and executed across production areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead industrial engineering activities supporting shipbuilding production, including analysis of production sequences, work content, facility layouts, equipment utilization, and workforce requirements.
- Develop and maintain labor plans for production and support organizations by analyzing workload, staffing requirements, direct and indirect labor, production schedules, and available capacity.
- Conduct time studies and line-balancing analyses to establish efficient work methods, identify labor requirements, improve workstation utilization, and balance production activities.
- Analyze material flow within shipbuilding facilities, including movement, staging, handling, and positioning of materials to reduce unnecessary transportation, delays, and production constraints.
- Use Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) to analyze cost and schedule performance, identify variances, develop performance projections, and support Estimate-at-Complete and recovery planning.
- Work directly with Control Account Managers (CAMs) to evaluate cost and schedule performance, investigate variances, establish performance projections, and develop corrective action and recovery plans.
- Lead Value Stream Mapping and bottleneck analysis across production processes to identify constraints, eliminate non-value-added activities, improve workflow, and increase production efficiency.
- Develop standardized production workflows and build strategies for new and existing shipbuilding products, incorporating labor requirements, equipment capabilities, material flow, safety, and production objectives.
- Recommend changes to production methods, equipment utilization, facility layouts, and operational processes based on quantitative analysis and observed production performance.
- Partner with production, engineering, facilities, program management, and operations leadership to implement sustainable improvements that support shipbuilding cost, schedule, safety, and productivity objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of management experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, production engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience performing industrial engineering analysis, including time studies, labor standards, line balancing, workflow analysis, and production process improvement.
- Experience developing labor plans and staffing requirements based on production workload, schedules, work content, and operational demand.
- Working knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), including cost and schedule variance analysis, performance projections, Estimate-at-Complete calculations, and recovery planning.
- Experience working with Control Account Managers (CAMs) or equivalent project/program personnel on cost, schedule, performance, and forecasting activities.
- Demonstrated experience using Value Stream Mapping and bottleneck analysis to identify production constraints and improve manufacturing flow.
- Strong understanding of shipbuilding or complex manufacturing build strategies, production workflows, material flow, equipment utilization, and facility planning.
- Ability to analyze labor, production, cost, schedule, and operational data and turn findings into specific recommendations for improving production performance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, computer proficiency, problem-solving ability, and the ability to work across production, engineering, facilities, program management, and operations teams in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment.
