Process Development Engineer

Location: Milan, Italy

Employment type: Full-time

An established and growing fibre optics and photonics technology company in Milan is seeking a Process Development Engineer to join their wafer fabrication team. This role will focus on developing and supporting key cleanroom processes, particularly in photolithography, thin-film deposition, and etching.

Key Responsibilities:

· Oversee and support wafer fab operations, focusing on photolithography (stepper and track systems) and the qualification of new reticles and recipes

· Develop and improve industrial manufacturing processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and cost control

· Support the development of thin film vacuum deposition and dry/plasma etching processes

· Investigate and troubleshoot process and product issues

· Collaborate with installation and maintenance teams for equipment calibration and upgrades

· Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety regulations

· Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods to improve process yield and reduce rework

· Introduce process innovations to improve lead times and performance

· Create and manage documentation for process transfer to manufacturing

· Conduct training for manufacturing operators on new or revised processes

Candidate Requirements:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electronics, Materials), Physics, or Chemistry

· Prior experience in wafer fab or semiconductor manufacturing (nanotechnology preferred)

· Familiarity with overlay and CDSEM metrology tools (preferred)

· Knowledge of plasma etching, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), or Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) is a plus

· Understanding of process validation and quality tools (e.g., FMEA, Six Sigma, SPC)

· Strong teamwork and communication skills

· Fluent in English (spoken and written)

· Willingness to travel occasionally

· Competency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of LabVIEW is an advantage
