Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the execution of complex commercial, government, military, and maritime vessel repair projects. This role is responsible for managing multiple ship repair and dry dock availabilities from contract award through final delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Senior Project Manager will serve as the primary customer contact, lead cross-functional project teams, oversee project financial performance, and drive successful project execution while supporting continuous operational improvement.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Lead multiple vessel repair and dry dock projects from planning through completion.
- Serve as the primary liaison for customers, government representatives, and project stakeholders.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
- Coordinate production, engineering, planning, purchasing, quality, safety, and subcontractor activities.
- Monitor project progress, financial performance, and profitability while implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Manage contract administration, change orders, customer communications, and project documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with contractual requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulations.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams, including Project Managers, Coordinators, and Superintendents.
- Support estimating, proposal development, and business development efforts for future projects.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout project execution.
Requirements of the role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Project Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in shipyard, ship repair, maritime operations, or industrial project management.
- Demonstrated success managing complex vessel repair or dry dock projects from award through closeout.
- Experience overseeing commercial, government, or military ship repair contracts.
- Strong knowledge of project budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, cost control, and financial management.
- Understanding of shipyard production, planning, estimating, subcontractor management, and resource allocation.
- Familiarity with maritime industry standards and regulatory requirements, including NAVSEA, MSC, MARAD, USCG, OSHA, or similar organizations, is preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and customer relationship management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and ERP or project management software.
- Ability to work in an active shipyard environment, including boarding vessels, accessing dry docks, climbing ladders, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
