Darwin are assisting a maritime logistics and terminal operator for their search for a Terminal Traffic Manager.
The Traffic Manager is responsible for overseeing all traffic, logistics coordination, customer service, and inventory control activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of cargo through a busy marine terminal. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers, terminal operations, rail providers, vessel operators, barge lines, trucking companies, and other transportation partners. The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing break bulk cargo operations, thrives in a fast-paced terminal environment, possesses exceptional customer service and leadership skills, and demonstrates advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reporting, analysis, inventory management, and operational planning. This position plays a key role in optimizing terminal performance, maintaining strong customer relationships, and driving continuous operational improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop the Customer Service, Scale House, and Inventory Control teams to achieve operational and customer service excellence.
- Coordinate daily traffic activities involving break bulk cargo, rail, vessel, barge, truck, and warehouse operations to ensure efficient cargo movement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between customers, terminal operations, transportation providers, and third-party vendors.
- Monitor cargo movements, inventory accuracy, shipment status, and transportation schedules while proactively resolving issues.
- Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel to develop reports, analyze operational data, track key performance metrics, and support business decisions.
- Collaborate with marine scheduling and operations teams to coordinate vessel arrivals, cargo handling, storage, and outbound transportation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable transportation and terminal regulations.
- Coordinate internal and external audits while maintaining accurate operational documentation and inventory records.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency, reporting accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
- Support leadership with operational planning, performance reporting, special projects, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Transportation, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in transportation, logistics, terminal operations, or traffic management.
- Required experience managing break bulk cargo operations within a marine terminal or port environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, formulas, reporting, and data analysis.
- Strong knowledge of marine terminal operations, rail transportation, trucking, warehousing, and inventory control.
- Proven leadership experience managing customer service, logistics, or operations teams.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and customer service.
- Self-motivated professional with a continuous improvement mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to changing operational demands.
