Job Overview
Seasonal role supporting electrical maintenance and operations across multiple locations.

  • December 1 – April 15 (Tacoma, WA): Perform maintenance and repair of electrical and conveyor systems, along with general clean-up on lighterage barges. Standard schedule is 4 days per week, 10 hours per day.
  • June 25 – November 1 (Alaska): Diagnose and repair electrical faults across conveyor, fueling, lubrication, power generation, and control systems. Inspect, report, and maintain barge electrical systems while supporting safe machinery operations. Work includes daily 9.75-hour shifts with 24/7 on-call responsibility, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair electrical systems on lighterage barges
  • Support installation, testing, and design of electrical components and systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair high- and low-voltage systems using schematics and technical manuals
  • Install and connect electrical equipment and cabling per specifications
  • Conduct testing, complete reports, and ensure compliance with procedures
  • Identify and requisition required materials
  • Provide updates and briefings to management
  • Assist with tasks outside core discipline when required

Technical Expertise

  • PLC and VFD troubleshooting and operation
  • 480/240/120V AC and 12/24V DC systems
  • Three-phase power distribution and switchboards
  • Generator paralleling systems
  • Control circuits and panels
  • General electrical maintenance (e.g., motor testing, breaker servicing)

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all safety procedures and use issued PPE correctly
  • Adhere to operational manuals and company policies, including drug and alcohol standards
  • Participate in compliance programs, including health monitoring and respiratory protection

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor, field-based role with exposure to noise and extreme weather
  • Work in confined spaces while wearing protective equipment
  • Physically demanding, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and navigating vessels

Requirements

  • High school diploma, trade qualification, or equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to pass physical fitness and drug screening
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Eligibility for or willingness to obtain required security credentials
