Head of E&I Development

My client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Electrical & Instrumentation Development to lead the design and development of innovative systems for a groundbreaking new ship class. In this role, you will lead a team of skilled engineers and collaborate with experts in naval architecture, electrical systems, and embedded technology to develop electrical and embedded systems for autonomous vessels.
Your Tasks:
· Lead the development of core electrical and embedded systems (sensors, onboard electronics, navigation systems).
· Define and manage system requirements for product development.
· Design electrical and control systems for vessels.
· Conduct power system and electrical load analyses.
· Prepare equipment, installation specifications, and testing/commissioning procedures.
· Mentor a team of engineers, guiding technical development.
· Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (naval architects, mechanical and control engineers).
· Oversee the installation of systems at shipyards.
· Make strategic decisions on whether to develop or outsource technology.
· Review vendor bids and evaluate technical aspects.
· Develop work plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring projects stay on track.
· Provide updates to the CTO on technical progress and potential roadblocks.
Your Profile:
· Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
· 7+ years of experience in shipbuilding or the marine industry is required.
· Strong knowledge of ship electrical and control systems, including power distribution, motor controls, and data networks.
· Experience with autonomous or remote-controlled systems is a plus.
· Familiarity with Classification society regulations and international electrical standards.
· Proficiency in software for electrical design and analysis.
· Strong organizational and project management skills.
· Network of maritime suppliers and experience working with them.
· Problem-solving skills with a hands-on, results-driven approach.
· Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration within a motivated team.
· Adaptability to fast-paced startup environments and willingness to travel for hardware testing.
· German proficiency is advantageous.
· EU Work Permit
