Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Space Systems

Darwin Space are representing a European space technology company that is expanding its senior engineering team.

We’re looking for an experienced embedded software engineer from the space or aerospace sector who can combine hands-on development with broader technical ownership.

The Role:

You’ll work on embedded software for complex space systems, taking ownership of challenging technical problems from development through to integration.

This is a hands-on role with technical leadership responsibilities. You’ll contribute directly to development while helping shape architecture, technical decisions and engineering approaches.

You’ll work closely with systems and other engineering teams to resolve interfaces, integration challenges and system-level problems, while also supporting technical reviews and mentoring other engineers.

Technical Background:

A strong embedded software background is essential, with experience across the full development lifecycle from requirements and design through development, integration, testing and deployment.

Key technical requirements include:

C, Python, RTOS and Linux, alongside solid hands-on embedded systems experience.

You should be comfortable working close to hardware and understanding how software interacts with the wider system. Experience with real-time or mission-critical applications, testing and verification is highly relevant.

What You’ll Bring:

Space or aerospace experience is essential.

We’re looking for someone with around 8+ years of professional experience in complex embedded, real-time or mission-critical systems.

Your background could include spacecraft software, avionics, flight computers, onboard systems or similar aerospace applications.

Previous experience as a Technical Lead, Software Architect, Systems Engineer, Principal Engineer or similar would be valuable.

Experience with standards such as ECSS, DO-178, IEC 61508 or comparable frameworks is also advantageous.

The Opportunity:

You’ll have the opportunity to influence how embedded software is designed and developed while working on real space hardware and programmes alongside experienced engineers.

If you have a genuine space or aerospace background, strong embedded experience and are looking for greater technical ownership, Darwin Space would like to hear from you.

Please note: Due to the nature of the work, candidates currently based outside Germany must already hold the required security clearance and have the necessary eligibility to live and work in Germany.
