A Head of Technology to join one of Cologne's top eCommerce companies.

Today they attract 2 million unique monthly visitors and employ 180 people generating €50M annual revenues. 40% year-on-year growth so far with aggressive, ambitious growth objectives for the future.

What is your purpose?

Fundamentally it's to empower and enable the technology team. Of course, there are specific objectives and projects to undertake, but empowering the team is one of the most important factors in this role. If you can provide this style of healthy leadership balanced with competent guidance, there is a path for you to become the next CTO.

Technology is an increasingly important part of the companies growth, and the eCommerce store is the heart of the business. Your decisions and your teams' ideas should contribute to ambitious growth objectives. Today the B2C store runs on Spryker and so the kind of projects that you might decide to undertake could include:

  • Creating a Headless Frontend - Bringing the Cloud infrastructure in-house to make it more easily scalable and to gain more control
  • Improving the interconnectivity between different systems to make growth a smoother journey
  • Enabling improved customer experiences through technology. Better returns processes, live store stock inventories etc...

The current tech team is 7 people (4 PHP Backend, 2 Frontend, 1 QA) and there are already tech vacancies for a further 4 people (Product Owner, PHP Dev, Infrastructure Engineer and Senior Frontend Dev). You'll own the responsibility of hiring going forwards.

eCommerce know-how

Specific domain experience in the world of eCommerce is really valuable in this role because it will enable you to spot the opportunities and implications of new technology on the broader business. We feel bringing previous domain knowledge could add real value to your potential contributions.

Someone who speaks technology, but not a hands-on developer

You're going to be responsible for software engineering and we expect in the past you probably were a programmer. But in this role, your responsibilities are beyond coding. You should understand the details of technology, software architecture, and be able to manage developers. But it's unlikely you will spend much time, if any time at all, coding yourself.

Digitisation enthusiasm

You should be working towards becoming the future CTO and that requires you to have an input into digitisation across the business beyond what may already exist or already be recognised as important or possible. Perhaps an entrepreneurial spirit would be valuable here!
