BAS Commissioning Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced BAS Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning and startup of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for a large-scale data center project in Texas. This role is responsible for verifying, testing, and validating control systems that manage HVAC, mechanical, and critical cooling infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, redundancy, and reliability.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in mission-critical facilities, understands data center cooling strategies, and can work effectively with MEP contractors, controls vendors, and commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities

Lead commissioning activities for BAS and HVAC control systems

Review control submittals, sequences of operation, and shop drawings

Verify proper installation of control panels, field devices, and network infrastructure

Perform:

  • Point-to-point testing
  • Functional Performance Testing
  • Integrated Systems Testing

Validate control sequences for:

  • CRAC/CRAH units
  • Chillers and cooling towers
  • Pumps and hydronic systems
  • Air Handling Units (AHUs)
  • Economizers and redundancy systems

Troubleshoot control programming and communication issues (BACnet, Modbus, etc.)

Coordinate with controls contractors such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric

Support Level 3-5 commissioning documentation and reporting

Ensure compliance with project specifications and owner requirements

Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)

Assist with client training and system turnover documentation

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

5+ years of BAS or controls commissioning experience

Strong knowledge of:

  • HVAC systems and chilled water plants
  • Data center cooling topologies (N, N+1, 2N)
  • BAS communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks)

Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and control schematics

Familiarity with Texas building codes and commissioning standards

OSHA 30 certification (preferred)

Ability to work on-site in Texas (travel within the state may be required)

Compensation

$95,000 – $160,000 base salary

Benefits package (medical, 401k, PTO)
