We have partnered with a leader in the pressure pumping industry who is actively recruiting a controls engineer into a newly created position within their Pittsburgh based team – this is a Hybrid position.

The Controls Engineer is responsible for executing projects, providing operational support, and maintaining the company’s automation and controls platform. This role involves collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to understand and manage the hardware, software, and network infrastructure. The engineer will also develop and implement automation solutions to improve control systems and support future platform upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contact for operational technical support to ensure system continuity.
  • Provide technical assistance to support uninterrupted manufacturing of equipment.
  • Conduct training for operational teams on new processes and control technology.
  • Manage and execute projects involving control systems, including hardware, software, and networks.
  • Design, commission, and launch automation solutions, ensuring seamless integration with the existing control systems and strategy.
  • Troubleshoot electrical controls, including PLCs, controllers, networks, VFDs, power systems, and automation software.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of control systems, hardware, and software standards to ensure the company remains aligned with industry trends.
  • Act as the main point of contact for third-party automation integrators.
  • Collaborate with technology vendors and partners as needed.
  • Travel may be required for stakeholder discussions, operational support, or technology R&D and deployment.

Skills/abilities;

  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success in executing controls and automation projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of control systems, including SIEMENS hardware and software, programming languages, protocols, and networking.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding SCL PLC programming language.
  • Strong operational focus with a history of practical problem-solving.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to meet objectives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting P&IDs, PFDs, and other technical design documents.
