Mechanical Design Engineer

My client in Rotterdam, is searching for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of sustainable shipping, working within a collaborative team to design the mechanical systems onboard next-generation ships.

Responsibilities:

• Design and analyse piping, ventilation, firefighting, cooling, and other on-board systems using engineering principles.
• Create detailed 2D and/or 3D models and drawings of these systems.
• Conduct various mechanical calculations (strength, flow, response) to ensure optimal performance.
• Design systems with a focus on material efficiency, size/weight optimization, and ease of maintenance.
• Gain a thorough understanding of regulations set by classification societies.
• Collaborate with project management, production, and operation departments.
• Propose innovative technical improvements to enhance ship design.
• Ensure timely completion of project deliverables.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (preferably 5+ years).
• Experience with LNG and CNG ship installations is a plus.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
• Working fluency in English, with Dutch a bonus.
• EU citizenship or valid work authorization for the Netherlands.
