Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Photonics Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and optimization of silicon photonics passive and active devices. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work on pioneering technologies in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in optoelectronics and hands-on experience with photonics design tools and simulation software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design of Silicon Photonics Passive Devices:

    • Develop and optimize designs for key passive devices, such as Grating Couplers, Edge Couplers, WDM Mux/Demux, Polarization Splitter/Rotator (PSR), and more.
  • Design of Active Devices:

    • Lead the design of silicon photonics active devices, including modulators, detectors, and other related components.
  • Design Optimization:

    • Perform optimization of both passive and active devices, ensuring they meet performance targets while balancing specifications and cost.
  • Testing and Verification:

    • Set up and maintain testing platforms to evaluate device performance.
    • Collaborate with testing engineers to verify designs, refine testing methods, and analyze data.
  • Collaboration with Optical Engineers:

    • Work closely with optical engineers to finalize optical packaged designs, ensuring proper integration and functionality.
  • Collaboration with Silicon Photonics Fabs:

    • Coordinate with silicon photonics foundries to define and optimize the fabrication process, ensuring manufacturability and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Master’s degree or higher in Optoelectronics, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in photonics design, with a focus on silicon photonics.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Experience working with Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) and Silicon Nitride (SiN) platforms.
    • Proficiency in simulation tools such as Lumerical (or similar waveguide optics simulation software), HFSS, Comsol, or other RF simulation software.
    • Expertise in layout design tools such as Luceda, Klayout, L-Edit, or similar software.
  • Communication Skills:

    • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate effectively within the team and with external collaborators.
  • Other Skills:

    • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
    • Professional conduct and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
