Marine Engineering

Structural Engineer.

My client is responsible for the design, basic engineering, and all calculations required for custom-built superyachts. They are the technical and creative brain behind some of the world’s most luxurious yachts, and a hub for all research and development efforts in this industry.

As an engineer, you will play a key role in contributing to these projects. Combining construction, mechanical engineering, and naval architecture, you will utilize calculation, fitting, and measuring with both insight and ingenuity to help bring these superyacht dreams to life.

Position: Structural Engineer

As a Structural Engineer, you will collaborate closely with colleagues from various disciplines within large projects to achieve a flawless end result: a custom superyacht. Within the project team, you will maintain continuous contact with your colleagues, coordinating and consulting on the design. You will report to a (Sr.) Project Engineer Structural and, on a hierarchical level, to the Team Leader of Structural Engineering.

The role involves engineering (calculation & 3D modeling) of naval constructions & arrangements based on the requirements of classification societies and flag states. This will include spaces within the hull and superstructure of the yacht. The technical challenges stem from the unique wishes and dreams of clients, meaning design, style, comfort, and innovation play a significant role. You will need to understand how your work interacts with the interior, exterior, and mechanical systems of the yacht while keeping an eye on naval construction aspects.

Success in this role means you can maintain an overview between the details, the big picture, and the integration of different engineering disciplines. Thinking from a technical design perspective about the feasibility of various structural solutions is also key.

Your Tasks Include:

  • Drawing up, checking, and applying physical models related to construction, loads, and materials.
  • Analyzing and interpreting drawings.
  • Assisting with strength calculations that are not handled by the FEM department.
  • Advising on structural solutions.
  • Ensuring technical correctness and safety.

What You Bring:

  • A completed relevant education (shipbuilding) at the HBO level.
  • Experience as a Structural Engineer during new construction projects of superyachts and/or passenger ships (must-have).
  • Experience with 3D CAD and PLM systems (NX is a plus, training provided internally).
  • Knowledge of ship construction, LR, REG LY code, SOLAS, FEM, and vibration analyses (on-the-job training available).
  • A proactive and collaborative attitude.
  • Creativity and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English.

Our Offer:

  • An organization that is continually developing, where your qualities and talents are recognized and valued.
  • Opportunities for further professional development, including gaining new knowledge and working in multidisciplinary engineering teams (including chances to work at different locations).
  • The possibility of hybrid working (home and office-based).
  • A challenging and responsible role in an organization that operates at the forefront of technology.
  • Working with the world leader in full-custom yacht building.
  • Excellent working conditions, including:
    • A gross monthly salary in scale 8 between €3,500 and €4,500 (depending on experience and skills).
    • A 13th month salary.
    • 8% holiday pay.
    • Premium-free pension.
    • 40 days off (27 vacation days and 13 ADV days).
    • Fun activities organized for the team and across the organization, including events organized by the staff association.
