Optical Satcom Engineer
A leading company in laser communications is seeking an experienced Optical Satcom Engineer to contribute to the development of next-generation optical communication terminals. Specializing in high-speed data transfer solutions for small satellite platforms, this organization is advancing optical intersatellite links and ground station integration, playing a key role in the future of space-based communications.
The Role
As an Optical Satcom Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of optical communication systems. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the architecture, integration, and performance enhancement of high-precision laser communication technology, ensuring its reliability in both orbital and ground-based applications.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and refine optical communication systems for space applications

Conduct link budget analysis, optical design, and system integration

Collaborate with hardware, software, and RF engineers to optimize system performance

Support the development of optical ground stations and intersatellite links
-
Oversee environmental testing, calibration, and validation of optical terminals

Provide technical expertise on optical system architecture and performance
About You
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in free-space optical communications, optical terminal design, and laser-based data transmission. A strong background in optical system engineering, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration is essential.
Requirements

Degree in Optics, Photonics, Telecommunications, or a related field

10+ years of experience in optical communications, laser systems, or photonics

Expertise in optical link budgets, beam steering, and system integration

Proficiency in optical design tools such as Zemax or Code V
-
Understanding of optical modulation, coding, and data transmission techniques

Experience with environmental testing and qualification of space hardware
-
US citizenship or eligibility to work in the US due to export restrictions
