Senior Satellite Platform Engineer
Our partner in the Newspace industry is seeking an experienced Senior Spacecraft Platform Engineer in Oxfordshire UK. They are dedicated to securing the safe and sustainable development of space, this company focuses on in-orbit servicing missions to mitigate the hazardous accumulation of debris in space and ensure the longevity of space systems.
Role Overview: As the Team Lead within the Systems Team, the chosen candidate will be responsible for contributing to project aspects and mentoring team members. The role demands platform level system engineering experience on a smallsat (or bigger), hands-on experience in spacecraft systems engineering, enabling immediate contributions to ongoing projects. Collaboration with international offices will also be integral, necessitating potential travel for project support and engagement with European suppliers.
Responsibilities:
- Development of spacecraft mission and system design including requirements derivation and CONOPS definition.
- Conduct mission analysis and model spacecraft missions.
- Manage platform systems budgets (e.g., mass, power, data, fuel).
- Produce mission-level test and verification plans, FMECA, FTA, and FDIR.
- Perform feasibility studies on various scenarios and architectures.
- Assist in bid work by providing technical solutions and documentation.
- Maintain configuration control of systems work and documentation.
Essential Skills:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of commercial experience in satellite platform architecture systems engineering.
- Knowledge of systems and project engineering lifecycle.
- Experience in mission and systems architecture definition.
- Familiarity with a range of subsystems and engineering teams.
- Proficiency in systems engineering documentation development.
- Basic knowledge in debris removal, end-of-life, or in-orbit maintenance.
Desired Skills:
- 15+ years of commercial experience in satellite systems engineering.
- Understanding or experience in project management, procurement, or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with engineering and modeling packages or coding languages.
- Knowledge of debris removal regulations, space law, and relevant past missions.
