Senior Structural Bridge Engineer / Project Manager

Role Summary
A forward-thinking engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer / Project Manager to support its expanding Northeast infrastructure team. This hybrid role offers the chance to lead the design and delivery of bridge and transportation structures across rail and highway systems. You’ll guide multidisciplinary teams, take ownership of key project phases, and contribute to mentoring future engineering talent.

What You’ll Do
Lead the structural design and planning for bridge and transportation infrastructure projects, from initial concept through final documentation

Oversee project schedules, task management, and budgeting to ensure smooth execution

Develop detailed proposals and contracts in alignment with project goals

Support strategic decision-making around technical direction, resource allocation, and timeline management

Build and maintain client relationships, with opportunities to participate in business development

Mentor junior engineers and oversee quality control on design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and related deliverables

Conduct thorough reviews of project documents to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with client expectations

What You Bring
Deep expertise in structural engineering, especially as it applies to bridge systems

Strong communication skills-written, verbal, and visual

Proven ability to work autonomously as well as in collaborative, cross-functional teams

High attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work

Leadership qualities with a passion for mentoring and knowledge-sharing

Project management experience within engineering consultancy environments

Proficiency with structural design software, such as:

Midas Civil

OpenBridge Modeler & Designer

AASHTOWare

MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH

Mathcad

Familiarity with MicroStation v8/Connect and AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus

Qualifications
8-11 years of professional experience in structural bridge design; candidates with 11-15 years are strongly encouraged to apply

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a structural focus); Master’s degree may count toward experience

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

Hands-on experience with structural detailing and design for steel, concrete, and prestressed concrete bridges, including seismic evaluation

Previous project involvement with agencies such as MTA, NYCDOT, NYSDOT, and/or PANYNJ is preferred
